Let's dive in!

Clear The Content Type Clutter

Atlassian Confluence Cloud is evolving and it’s evolving fast. Atlassian has added so many new features to Confluence Cloud it’s gotten hard to keep track. In the past, you could create a space, then create pages within each space. Today, as well as pages, you can also create folders, whiteboards, databases and Smart Links. It can be overwhelming to decide what content types to use and when. And with all of these options, your space structure can easily get bloated.

A Real-life Example From Us

In our experience, each space should be created for a specific purpose. For example, a product documentation space’s purpose is to help users learn everything about your product. Our product documentation spaces at K15t are all structured in the same way.

The spaces are then published with Scroll Viewport for Confluence Cloud as a help center for our users. Our documentation is just made up of Confluence pages.

Keep Track of Your Content

Looking at the example above, since whiteboards, databases, smart links and folders are not used in those spaces (and won’t be used) you can choose to remove this content type via the space settings. This will prevent anyone from using content types that aren’t needed.

By deactivating the content types and features your team doesn’t need, you clear the ‘content type clutter’ for them. This enables your team to focus on what they do best. Just be careful to not deactivate features and content types without evaluating whether they’d make sense for your space first.

Atlassian just announced a new space creation experience which helps your team to curate spaces tailored to your needs even better.
